Microalbuminuria predicts progression of nephropathy, and also predicts CVD. Drug treatment of albuminuria with ACEIs or ARBs reduces progression of kidney dysfunction. Options for anti-hyperglycemic drug treatment become limited in CRF, particularly in those below 30 GFR.
Among newer drugs, linagliptin retains its efficacy and could be given without need for dose modification.
